Why Acting Police IG Masengeli Has Been Summoned

The High Court has summoned Acting Police IG Gilbert Masengeli to personally appear at 3 pm on Tuesday to answer questions regarding the recent disappearance of three individuals in Kitengela, which occurred two weeks ago.

On August 28, Justice Lawrence Mugambi instructed the Inspector General of Police, along with the DPP, AG, DCI, and National Intelligence Service, to immediately reveal the whereabouts of Bob Micheni, Jamil Longton, and Aslam Longton to the Law Society of Kenya, the organization that initiated the legal action.

However, this directive has not been followed.

The Law Society of Kenya filed the case, citing multiple reports indicating that the three were forcibly taken by armed police officers and detained in undisclosed locations without communication.

Court documents reveal that the three individuals used their social media platforms to urge the youth to rally in large numbers and completely reject the finance bill.

They also reportedly encouraged Kenyans to engage in nationwide protests calling for significant changes in the country.

“It was after these actions that the respondents, using armed police officers, began abducting them,” the LSK alleged.

According to the LSK, Bob was kidnapped on August 19, 2024, around 10:40 pm by masked men while he was on his way home from a matatu, locally known as the Rembo shuttle, in the Kasina area.

The other two were abducted on the same day, August 19, 2024, around 2:00 pm as they were leaving their residence in Kitengela.

They were reportedly forced into a white Subaru, which then sped off to an unknown location, and they remain missing to date.

“None of these individuals has been charged with any recognized offense in any Kenyan court,” stated the LSK.
