UDA Urges Halt to Raila’s Night Meeting
Cleophas Malala, secretary general of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has intensified his attack on the opposition by requesting that the relevant authorities halt its planned night vigil.
Malala, on Tuesday, July 25, interpreted the opposition’s most recent move as sinister, contending that it was designed to confuse security agents.
The former senator from Kakamega stated while addressing UDA grassroots leaders from Mombasa at a meeting held at Hustlers Plaza in Nairobi, that the vigil may be characterized by the pandemonium witnessed at previous protests.
“We know your intentions. “According to intelligence reports, you postponed the planned day protests to use the cover of darkness to cause property damage,” Malala, an advisor to President William Ruto, claimed.
However, he stated that security agents would be on standby to safeguard the lives and property of Kenyans in the event of chaos.
Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja party has announced that it will hold a night vigil on Wednesday, July 26 to honor Kenyans who lost their lives during demonstrations.
The vigil was announced as an alternative to the anti-government demonstrations scheduled for the same day.
In response to the modifications, Malala questioned why the opposition did not investigate alternative ways to memorialize the protest victims.

“There are many other methods to mourn besides lighting candles. “We can go to church and pray for the victims,” advised Malala to Azimio.
Moreover, he asserted that Raila Odinga was employing protests, vigils, and other aggressive methods to instigate a handshake with President William Ruto, which the former prime minister has repeatedly refuted.
Malala, however, echoed Ruto and other pro-government officials’ earlier assertion that the Kenya Kwanza administration would be coerced into sharing power with the opposition.
Raila stated on Tuesday, July 25 that he was willing to engage in dialogue with all peace envoys attempting to convince the warring parties to accept a ceasefire.
In a televised interview with international media outlets, he claimed that Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu’s efforts to mediate between him and Ruto failed because Ruto refused to meet the neighboring leader.
In mid-July 2023, Suluhu visited Kenya. The Commonwealth also offered to reconcile Raila and Ruto and warned that their dispute threatens Kenya’s tranquility.
