U.S First lady, Jill Biden, in surgery.

Mrs. Biden is “in good spirits and feeling well,” according to Dr. O’Connor.

Dr. Kevin O’Connor wrote in a memo on Wednesday that both were consistent with basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer.

According to the study, all cancerous tissue was removed from the lesions using a technique known as Mohs surgery.

According to the president’s doctor, US First Lady Jill Biden underwent surgery to remove two cancerous skin lesions.

Dr. Kevin O’Connor wrote in a memo on Wednesday that both were consistent with basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer.

According to the study, all cancerous tissue was removed from the lesions using a technique known as Mohs surgery.

Mrs. Biden is “in good spirits and feeling well,” according to Dr. O’Connor.

Following a routine skin cancer screening earlier this month, doctors recommended that a small lesion above Mrs. Biden’s right eye should be excised out of “an abundance of caution”.

The procedure on Wednesday morning confirmed that the lesion was basal cell carcinoma (BCC).

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, it is the most common type of cancer, affecting 3.6 million

Americans each year. If treated early, BCCs are slow-growing, curable, and cause little damage.

A second lesion on the first lady’s left eyelid, as well as a third on the left side of her chest, was also removed. The latter had the appearance of a potential BCC.

Mohs surgery involves surgeons removing and analyzing thin layers of skin until no cancerous cells are found. Typically, patients are discharged on the same day.

Mrs. Biden is said to be suffering from facial swelling and bruising, but she is expected to return to the White House later Wednesday.

President Joe Biden accompanied his wife to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland, about 15 miles from the White House, for the procedure, which occurred just hours after their return from a trilateral summit in Mexico City.

Before becoming president, Mr. Biden had several non-melanoma skin cancers removed with Mohs surgery. In a 2021 summary of his health, Dr. O’Connor wrote that the president’s lesions had been excised and “there are no areas suspicious for skin cancer at this time”.
