Matiang’i: No Scores to Settle, I Just Want to Fix My Country

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has made it clear that his bid for the 2027 presidency is not about settling old political scores. Instead, he says his mission is to serve Kenya and help the country recover from its current problems.

Speaking during an interview on K24, Dr. Matiang’i said he wants to bring serious leadership focused on service delivery and national transformation.

“If Kenya wants serious leadership and results, I’m one of the candidates they should consider seriously,” he said. “I’m not here to fight anyone or repay political debts. I simply want to help fix the issues holding our country back.”

Dr. Matiang’i believes Kenya has all it takes to succeed, including a wealth of natural resources and a highly educated youth population. He says the country’s problems can be solved with the right leadership.

“Many countries face tough times like we are facing now,” he added. “But what matters is that we don’t lose hope. These challenges are here to teach us, and they will make us stronger. Kenya is a resilient nation, and I’m confident we will rise again.”

Addressing rumours about divisions in the opposition, Matiang’i dismissed any talk of confusion over who will lead the presidential bid. He noted that he will soon reveal the political party under which he will run.

Matiang’i is now working closely with top political leaders including Martha Karua (People’s Liberation Party), Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua (Democracy for Citizens Party). He’s also teamed up with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Public Service CS Justin Muturi.

Together, the team is planning a united front with a clear goal — to defeat President William Ruto in the 2027 general election.
