Notably, NACADA revealed that alcohol is the most abused substance in Kenya at present.

One in eight Kenyans between the ages of 15 and 65 is currently using alcohol.

According to the survey, the total number of alcohol consumers in the country is 3,199,119.

According to NACADA, more males (2,511,763) than females (687,355) are currently consuming alcohol within the same age demographic.

NACADA disclosed in its survey that it was able to monitor reliable estimates of drug and substance use at the national, regional, and urban/rural levels due to the use of a cross-sectional study design.

“The survey was conducted in selected clusters spread across the 47 counties of the Republic of Kenya,” the survey stated.

“The study sampled Kenyans aged 15 to 65 years. The sample for the survey was obtained from the Kenya a Household Master Sample Frame (K-HMSF) maintained by the KNBS.”
