‘There’s Time for Everything,’ Babu Says on Missing ODM Leadership Slot as He Eyes Future Role
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino is confident that he will one day attain a prominent role within the ODM party’s leadership.
Babu was not included in the recent leadership reshuffle of the Opposition party, which aimed to fill the vacancies created by the appointments of Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, Opiyo Wandayi, and John Mbadi to Cabinet positions.
In the updated leadership structure, ODM has appointed governors Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Nassir, along with Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, as deputy party leaders.
The party has also retained Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as both the secretary general and spokesperson.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has been chosen to succeed John Mbadi as the national chairman.
In response to his exclusion from the lineup, Babu remarked, “There is a time and season for everything.”

In a social media video, Babu compared his situation to a biblical story about a paralyzed man who lay by the Pool of Bethesda for decades, waiting for healing from Jesus.
The man had been unable to walk for 38 years and had lost hope of being healed because he couldn’t enter the pool’s waters to gain its healing benefits.
According to the Gospel of John, despite the crowd at the pool, Jesus healed only this man on that day.
“Jesus healed him and the man carried his mat. He did not leave the mat. Carrying the mat was a sign of him not letting his challenges overcome him,” Babu explained.
Babu’s comments followed his recent statement expressing his desire to lead the ODM party if Raila Odinga secures the African Union Commission chairperson position.
The MP is optimistic that Raila will win the upcoming election in February next year.
“Baba akienda, mjitayarishe kufuata Babu! (When Baba goes, be prepared to follow Babu),” he declared.
Raila will be competing against Mahmoud Ali Youssouf from Djibouti, Anil Kumarsingh Gayan of Mauritius, and Richard Randriamandrato of Madagascar.
