‘There Was Nothing Wrong’: DP Gachagua Speaks On President Ruto’s Cabinet Reshuffle
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has downplayed the public concerns raised by the Cabinet reshuffle made by President William Ruto on Wednesday.
Gachagua says the reshuffle was a normal reorganization of government by the President, within his mandate, to optimize and enhance service delivery in his administration.
The deputy president also disputed the notion that the reshuffle, which came a year into the government of President William Ruto, had come so soon.
“One year is not so soon. A year is a long time. Reshuffles have always been conducted over the years. The president has the mandate to set up his government. He is the one who made the appointments and placed them in the respective dockets and the interest of service delivery he saw it fit to effect some changes,” said Gachagua in an interview with Inooro FM.
He asserted that the head of state made the reassignments by weighing the strengths of the respective Cabinet Secretaries, adding that there is no issue for instance by having the CS for Lands and Water switch roles.
DP Gachagua claims that there was no problem or mistake made by the Ministers affected by the reshuffle.
“I don’t think the president has made any mistake by pointing at those individuals. If there was something wrong he would have sacked them. It is all about reorganizing his government,” he said.
The DP also dismissed the perception that the reshuffle only targeted the Mt Kenya region, noting that all key dockets initially handed to the region are still intact.
