Mauritius, which is ranked 34th globally, has risen to first place in Africa.

Japanese citizens have visa-free or visa-on-demand access to a record 193 destinations worldwide, trailing only Singapore and South Korea, both of which have 192.

Despite falling two places in the global mobility rating to position 73, Kenya’s passport remains the eighth most powerful on the continent.

The Henley Passport Index has published a list of the most powerful passports for 2023.

According to the new data, Japanese citizens have visa-free or visa-on-demand access to a record 193 destinations worldwide, trailing only Singapore and South Korea, both of which have visa-free or visa-on-demand access to 192.

The information came from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

As a result, here are the best passports to have in 2023.

  • Japan (193 destinations) 
  • South Korea, Singapore (192 destinations)
  • Germany and Spain (190 destinations)
  • Finland, Italy, and Luxembourg are among the countries involved (189 destinations)
  • Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands, and Sweden (188 destinations)
  • France, Ireland, Portugal, and the United Kingdom are all members (187 destinations)
  • Belgium, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, the United States, and the Czech Republic are all represented (186 destinations)
  • Australia, Canada, Greece, and Malta are among the countries represented (185 destinations)
  • Hungary and Poland (184 destinations)
  • Slovakia and Lithuania (183 destinations)

Kenyan passports, on the other hand, have retained their position as the eighth most powerful on the continent despite falling two places in the global mobility rating to position 73.

Kenyans can now travel to 73 countries without a visa or obtain one on arrival, up from 72 in January.

Mauritius, which is ranked 34th worldwide, was ranked first in Africa in the annual rankings produced in collaboration with the International Air Transport Association.
