Gachagua’s Ally Senator John Methu Admits Ruto Might Win 2027 Elections

Nyandarua Senator John Methu, a close ally of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has cautioned that President William Ruto could easily secure a second term if the Mt Kenya region remains divided.

Speaking during a TV interview on Sunday, August 25, 2025, Methu claimed that new political parties aligned with Ruto will soon emerge in the region, describing it as a calculated move to split Mt Kenya’s voting power before the 2027 General Election.

The youthful senator noted that Mt Kenya’s political influence has always relied on unity. However, the rise of multiple parties threatens to scatter its bargaining strength.

He alleged that Ruto’s game plan is to exploit divisions in the mountain region while consolidating support from other parts of the country.

“Our people should realise early and be cautious of many political parties coming up in the region because it is Ruto’s goal to divide the Mt Kenya votes and secure votes in the 2027 poll to make him win the re-election bid,” Methu said.

    Senator Calls for Vigilance

Methu further urged locals not to be deceived by leaders who appear to oppose the President.

“We should also be vigilant because not everyone who sings ‘Ruto must go’ actually wants him to go,” he said, warning that residents should examine leaders’ real motives instead of following populist slogans.

According to Methu, failure to unite will push Mt Kenya into political irrelevance, giving Ruto an easier path to re-election in 2027.

    Rising Criticism of Ruto

His warning comes at a time when some former allies of the President have turned into sharp critics of his government.

One of the most vocal is Moses Kuria, the former Economic Advisor to the President, who has openly accused the administration of failing to honor campaign promises and sidelining loyal allies.

Kuria has repeatedly argued that Ruto’s government is neglecting the needs of ordinary citizens. His criticism, joined by other disillusioned leaders, has fueled growing dissent within the ruling camp.

Despite the cracks, Methu insisted that only unity in Mt Kenya will protect the region’s political relevance and stop Ruto from exploiting divisions ahead of 2027.
