Ruto’s Urgent Plea to MP Ndindi Nyoro Amidst Supremacy Strife with DP Gachagua
On Tuesday, January 23, President William Ruto urged Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro and other aspiring young politicians vying for leadership in the Mt. Kenya region to exercise prudence.
Ruto urged Ndindi and other emerging politicians to be open to mentorship from seasoned leaders before entering into leadership contests.
According to his comments, the President seemed to align himself with Gachagua. Nevertheless, he refrained from explicitly endorsing the Deputy President as his running mate in 2027, creating room for varying interpretations.
“Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and I said that we would mentor these young men. They should go slow while we are mentoring them because if they go too fast they will spoil things. Relax, do not be in a hurry,” Ruto stated.
He mentioned that neither he nor his Deputy President is inclined to engage in conflicts with emerging leaders.
A group of leaders from Mount Kenya, spearheaded by Senator Joe Nyutu of Murang’a and MP Edward Muriu of Gatanga, has publicly expressed their support for Ndindi Nyoro to be Deputy President Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 elections.
On Tuesday, January 17, Moses Kuria, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, additionally declared that he was the most qualified individual to guide the community into the future.

Leading up to the general election in August 2022, President William Ruto selected Gachagua as his vice-presidential candidate, opting for him over Interior CS Kithure Kindiki in a highly competitive race.
While Ruto intervened to settle the dispute between Gachagua and fellow leaders from Mt Kenya, Kindiki subtly remarked that he should not be dragged into political discussions related to 2027.
“Political talk about the 2027 or other future elections a year after a General Election is tactless, anti-people and primitive. It is a blot on the maturity of our democracy,” CS Kindiki stated.
“The ongoing debate ought to stop, but if it must proceed, I respectfully request that my name should not be dragged into it.”
In his perspective, Gachagua has expressed that the promotion of Ndindi Nyoro as a possible running mate for Ruto is orchestrated by individuals who are opposed to the unity of the politically influential Mt Kenya region.
“Nobody is planning to take someone else’s position. These young men should relax.” he further addressed Nyoro and other politicians from the region.
