Ruto warns Raila on mass action plans: ‘Enough Is Enough!’

President William Ruto has warned opposition leader Raila Odinga against holding illegal demonstrations that will destroy lives and property or paralysis of business operations in the nation.

In response to recent threats by Odinga and other opposition leaders to lead nationwide demonstrations the following week, the President stated that Kenya is a nation governed by the rule of law and that no one is above the law.

The Head of State insisted that he will not permit Odinga to “blackmail” the country and urged him to coordinate with police regarding the planned demonstrations.

“We must inform my friend Raila Odinga.” You cannot. Enough is sufficient. You cannot continue to extort the nation. We have no problem with you organizing demonstrations, but it is your responsibility to work with the police to ensure that the lives, property, and businesses of other Kenyan citizens are not disrupted, damaged, or harmed. They can return to work while you continue your demonstrations.

Wednesday, while speaking at State House in Nairobi, the President met with Trans Nzoia County leaders. He stated that Kenyans have the right to protest, but they must do so peacefully and by the law.

Odinga has held violent and disorderly protests for the past 50 years; he must assure Kenyans that this time will be different. President Ruto stated, “This is why we’ve instructed Raila Odinga to meet with the police and explain how the demonstrations will be peaceful.”

“Tunamwambia bwana Raila please, tupatie kaheshima kidogo. Hata sisi ni wakenya. Wewe sio Mkenya peke yako.”

Vice President Rigathi Gachagua, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakumicha, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya were also present at the meeting.

Others included Representatives Lilian Siyoi (Women Rep), Patrick Barasa (Cherangani), Allan Chesang (Trans Nzoia), and Ferdinand Wanyonyi (Kwanza), as well as former Representatives Joash Wamangoli and Noah Wekesa.

President Ruto informed the opposition that Kenya would not yield to his threats and blackmail.

Dr. Ruto stated, “I want to tell my older brother Raila Odinga that we cannot have two sets of laws.”

Mr. Gachagua praised the leaders’ willingness to collaborate with the government for the sake of development.

“I am glad that you are not involved in the planning of these demonstrations. Why didn’t Raila Odinga demonstrate when fertilizer costs were Sh 7,000 and unga prices were Sh 250? Mr. Gachagua inquired.

Mr. Mudavadi reprimanded Mr. Odinga for making unfounded and fictitious statements.

“We reside in a nation founded on the rule of law. Mr. Mudavadi stated that it is improper for anyone to declare a public holiday contrary to the rule of law.

Mr. Wetangula stated that belligerent politics was utterly counterproductive in developing nations, stating that the opposition leaders’ demonstration plans were uncalled for.

“Destructive violent activism is utterly counterproductive. The legitimacy of President Ruto is indisputable, according to Mr. Wetangula.
