Ruto Shares Heartwarming Tale of Rachel & Charlene’s Defiance to Attend Ogolla’s Burial

On Sunday, April 21, President William Ruto expressed surprise at how greatly his family was influenced by the late Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla.

During Ogolla’s funeral, the President shared that he had instructed his daughter Charlene Ruto not to be present at the burial or address the gathering.

He mentioned that he was surprised to see her giving a speech at the funeral, describing how much the late General had inspired her and other young Kenyans.

“I was surprised, amazed actually that my daughter was greatly influenced by Ogolla. Yesterday, she (Charlene) called me, she is here, and she told me I must go to the funeral of General Ogolla.”

“I told her, Charlene first there is nowhere you are going and there is no way you are going to speak anywhere. But as fate would have it, she found her way here and before I could notice she was on the microphone,” Ruto remarked.

While Charlene was speaking, Ruto watched in amazement, and once she concluded and went back to her seat, he broke into laughter.

Charlene reflected on her talks with the late CDF, noting that he served as a mentor to many young Kenyans.

The Head of State mentioned that he requested his wife, Rachel Ruto, to take a break because she attended the late CDF’s funeral procession on Saturday.

Despite the challenges, Rachel was determined to be present at the funeral to offer support to Ogolla’s wife and children during this difficult period.

Ruto highlighted that these were merely a few instances of Ogolla’s influence on the country through his guidance and character.

He emphasized that if given the opportunity, he would reappoint Ogolla as the CDF due to his outstanding performance and qualifications. Ruto also mentioned that his administration appoints individuals solely based on their merit.

“Many people say a lot of things because they do not understand what those of us who have worked with General Ogolla know about his potential and what he would have done for our country,” Ruto added.

Joel Rabuku, the son of the deceased General, and his family disclosed the strong bond between their family and the other family.

Ogolla, along with nine others, lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash in West Pokot County on Thursday, April 18.
