President Ruto was listed among the most influential Africans in 2023
The New African Magazine has listed nine Kenyans among the top 100 influential individuals in Africa.
The roster unveiled a couple of days before the start of the New Year, honors individuals from various fields across Africa who are making significant advancements and influencing others’ lives positively.
President William Ruto was included in the list within the politics and public service classification alongside other Kenyans.
Ruto’s recognition as one of the top 100 influential leaders globally by Times Magazine contrasts with domestic polls conducted by Tifa and InfoTrak, indicating a decline in his popularity within his home country.
The President, facing significant expectations to fulfill promises, blamed the opposition headed by ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga for obstructing his plans. Additionally, he stated that recent worldwide events like the Russian invasion of Ukraine disrupted his plans for delivering services, following criticisms from Kenyans about his consistent dishonesty.
Opposition figures contended that the Kenya Kwanza government was using financial means to secure positions in both continental and global standings as a means of improving Ruto’s reputation.
“Why this desperation for validation?” Kileleshwa MCA and opposition politician Robert Alai questioned the New African Magazine, which credited Ruto for service delivery.
However, Kenya had a strong presence in the sports category of the New African Magazine, with Kelvin Kiptum and Faith Kipyegon both included in the list.
