Power Trio Faces ICC Inquiry: Ruto, Kindiki, and IG Koome Under Spotlight
The lobbying organization Operation Linda Ugatuzi has requested the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate crimes against humanity in Kenya.
The activists accused President William Ruto, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, and Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome of crimes against humanity on Thursday, July 20.
In a letter signed by its national chairman, Prof. Fredrick Onyango Ogala, and Calyptus Wafula (secretary general), the lobbying group urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate and prosecute the triumvirate for destroying property and coordinating and murdering innocent civilians.
“Their actions may have contributed to the current pandemonium in the Sondu neighborhood of Kisumu and other areas of the Republic of Kenya.
The letter seen by GossipA2Z stated in part, “We believe that these incidents were planned systematically by elements of the police force and that orders to kill demonstrators were issued from the highest levels.”
In their letter, the Linda Ugatuzi lobby drew parallels between Kenya’s current political climate and the post-election violence of 2007/2008.

The group also included the UN Human Rights Office’s concerns regarding police officers’ use of excessive force to suppress riots.
“We intend to fully cooperate with the ICC in gathering additional evidence to bolster our case before formally initiating proceedings.”
“We recognize the ICC’s expertise and capacity in dealing with crimes of this nature and are committed to providing all relevant information in the pursuit of justice,” the letter continued.
To aid the International Criminal Court in its investigation of alleged crimes against humanity in Kenya, the activists stated that its dedicated representatives were accumulating evidence daily in all 47 counties.
In addition, the group led by Ogola requested that the ICC provide legal resources to facilitate the filing of the case and to safeguard witnesses who would appear before the court.
In a letter to the Kenyan government, the United Nations expressed concern over allegations of excessive or disproportionate use of force, including the use of firearms, by police during opposition and other civil group-organized protests.
Azimio la Umoja wrote to the ICC in April 2023, requesting an investigation into the political situation in Kenya.
In the letter, Azimio informed the International Criminal Court (ICC) that Ruto had allegedly manipulated presidential elections and seized key independent and constitutional offices.
