Politicians Stage Police-Related Deaths in Protests: Koome

Inspector General Japhet Koome spoke out on Tuesday regarding the recent protests against the government that took place last month.

On Tuesday during an address in Nyeri, he alleged that politicians engaged in the practice of procuring deceased individuals from the morgue, asserting that these corpses were individuals who had lost their lives in the midst of protests.

“It is so unfortunate that some senior members of the society go to the mortuary hiring dead bodies, calling the media and telling them that these people were killed by the police. How low can some of our leaders sink?’ Koome posed.

Addressing the matter, Koome is now discussing the demonstrations, marking her first public comments on the events that occurred over a span of three days last month.

Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, stated that approximately 50 individuals have lost their lives since March, following the opposition coalition’s declaration of renewed weekly large-scale demonstrations against the government.

In a statement, Interior PS Raymond Omollo reported that a single police officer lost their life, and a total of 305 law enforcement personnel sustained severe injuries.

Nevertheless, President Ruto has consistently asserted that the security of Kenya is not up for discussion.

Instead, he communicated to the Azimio leaders that they should issue an apology to Kenyans for the recent demonstrations that resulted in fatalities and injuries.

“It is dishonest for the opposition to pretend to be concerned about the well-being of the people yet they led demonstrations that led to loss of lives and destruction of property. They should be ashamed of themselves,” he said.
