Please Retrieve My Father’s Bible – General Ogolla’s Son Issues Emotional Plea During Memorial
Joel Omondi, the son of the deceased Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla, spoke emotionally during his father’s memorial service on Saturday. He called on military inspectors to do everything possible to recover his father’s beloved Bible from the remains of the helicopter that crashed.
General Ogolla, who died in the helicopter accident on Thursday, was remembered by his son as a modest and devout man. His unwavering faith in God went beyond his distinguished military service.
“Somewhere in that helicopter wreck is his Bible. I am hoping they can retrieve it from the wreck, I would love to keep it as a memento,” Omondi expressed during the memorial service.
Omondi described his father as a man who prioritized his faith and dedication to service rather than seeking recognition or powerful positions.
“As he lays here with his uniform I see they put his medals, his sword and boots, he loved them as tools for the job, but nothing more. He was not under any illusion that he was important after he breathed his last,” Omondi remarked.

Omondi, speaking for the family, expressed his father’s strong wish for a stable and safe country, urging soldiers to uphold General Ogolla’s work by addressing the threats posed by bandits and terrorists.
“He told me many times that General Karangi started the war on that side, and I (General Ogolla) will be the one to finish it,” Omondi recounted, emphasizing the importance of carrying out his father’s orders even in his absence.
Omondi celebrated his father’s life by noting that General Ogolla had always hoped to die defending his nation, as he considered it the highest honor.
“His biggest wish was for Kenya to be secure and free from external influence… He died doing that. There is no greater death for him,” Omondi declared.
The former Chief of Defence Forces will be buried at his mother’s home in Siaya on Sunday, honoring his request to be interred 72 hours after his passing.
The memorial service was graced by the presence of notable figures such as President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Chief Justice Martha Koome, multiple Cabinet Secretaries, and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
