Parliament’s 11-Member Team to Investigate CS Linturi Impeachment
The National Assembly has appointed TJ Kajwang, Yusuf Farah, Robert Mbui, and Naomi Waqo to an 11-member committee responsible for investigating the impeachment of Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.
The rest of the committee includes Rachel Nyamai, Samuel Chepkonga, George Gitonga, Jane Njeri Maina, Kassim Sawa Tandaza, Moses Malulu, and Catherine Omanyo. The impeachment motion against CS Linturi originates from the fake fertilizer scandal that surfaced in March.
While announcing the appointments, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah emphasized the need for the committee to be impartial.
“The integrity of their work and the credibility of their findings depend on their ability to remain as objective as possible during the investigation,” said Ichung’wah.
However, Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, who supported the motion, questioned the short time frame for nominating committee members.
“Mr. Speaker, my side is concerned about the Majority side’s list, which includes members seen as hardliners. I’m not sure how we will address this, but I hope you can guide us,” remarked Wandayi.

In response, Ichung’wah stated, “I urge them to act as a committee of the House. Regardless of their stance on the motion, they should handle it objectively and fairly without bias.”
In an earlier directive, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula advised legislators to nominate committee members who reflect the diversity of the house, including regional and gender considerations.
Addressing the opposition’s concerns, Speaker Wetangula said, “If you reject this list, it will negate what was approved this morning. If you fail to understand and acknowledge this as experienced debaters and legislators, then we are deceiving ourselves. The law is the law; it doesn’t need to be reasonable. This is not the speaker’s list; the speaker has no vested interest in this matter.”
The committee has ten days to investigate the allegations against CS Linturi and report back to the House.
Earlier on Thursday, the National Assembly approved the creation of a Select Committee to examine the allegations against CS Linturi.
MPs have decided to proceed with the impeachment process for CS Linturi. Parliament aims to discuss and conclude the impeachment motion before its upcoming recess in June.
