Moses Kuria Crowns Himself As Next Mt Kenya Political Maestro
On Sunday, January 21, Moses Kuria, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, joined the ongoing discussion about the Mt Kenya kingpin, adding his perspective to the debate that has created divisions among politicians from the influential Mt Kenya region.
Over the past fortnight, political figures in the area have declared their allegiance to either Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua or Ndindi Nyoro, the Member of Parliament for Kiharu.
Moses Kuria expressed the belief that he was in the most favorable position to take on a leadership role in the region, emphasizing that he possesses a broader national perspective compared to his rivals.
Employing a metaphor related to swimming, he argued that achieving the title of an Olympic swimming champion is not possible by merely swimming in a bathtub.
“Oh ye angling for regional supremacy, come and face me in the open Indian Ocean that is the great Republic of Kenya,” he dared other leaders.
Kuria expressed his views a day after Gachagua advised politicians in the area to refrain from aligning with specific factions and instead focus on bringing unity to Mt Kenya.
“Our relevance in national leadership lies in our unity. We know what disunity and divisive politics did us in the 1992 and 1997 elections,” he stated.

He claimed that individuals supporting various leaders for the throne had intentions to sow discord and subjugate the region.
On whether his position as the most senior politician from the region was in jeopardy, he remarked, “Nobody is planning to take someone else’s position. These young men should relax.”
Legislators from Mt Kenya, headed by Senator Joe Nyutu of Murang’a and MP Edward Muriu of Gatanga, have urged President William Ruto to select Ndindi Nyoro as the chosen running mate for the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
“We will request Ruto to choose a young person from Murang’a who is Ndindi Nyoro; Gachagua has lost his ground, treating people disrespectfully, including elected leaders,” the parliamentarians stated.
Ndindi Nyoro has not formally announced his intention to compete against Gachagua for the Deputy President role, but he has avoided distancing himself from the Nyutu-led team.
