Moses Kuria Breaks Silence After Cabinet Reshuffle

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has stated that he will continue to serve Kenyans regardless of where President William Ruto places him on the agenda.

In changes announced on Wednesday, the CS who served as Trade CS for a year was transferred to the Public Service Ministry, and East Africa Community (EAC) CS Rebecca Miano will now assume his place.

During the opening of the Garissa County Aggregation and Industrial Park, he stated that, following the restructuring, he had considered relocating his principal secretary to Garissa.

However, after speaking with the governor of Garissa, Nathif Jama, he decided to resume his duties.

“As you all know there were Cabinet changes and the governor called me yesterday asking whether I would still come to preside over the function. I thought of sending the PS but he told me that for such a historic launch, I should be the one to attend. I decided to come at once,” Kuria said.

“The government never sleeps and keeps on working, regardless of where we work. The Cabinet has a duty to assist the president in delivering his duties. Now, I will be in the Public Service docket, handling service delivery, and performance contracts. But even if I was given the Gender docket, I would still do it exceptionally, because all Kenyans need effective service delivery.”

Kuria added that after eleven months in office, he had transformed the Trade docket, citing the establishment of fifteen industrial sites and the promotion of domestic manufacturing through foreign deals.

Following the reorganization, concerns arose about who would oversee the launch of the industrial park between Kuria and Miano.

The former CS has not yet transferred his responsibilities to Miano and is still able to perform duties on the Trade agenda.

A random review of Kuria’s social media page revealed that he had announced that he would preside over the opening of the industrial park at the start of the week.

“Caips Groundbreaking launch planning in progress. Preparations are underway for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Garissa County Aggregation and Industrial Park slated for this Thursday,” read his tweet dated October 3, 2023.

“The event will be graced by Governor Nathif Jama and CS Moses Kuria.”

Since assuming office, Moses Kuria has been establishing industrial sites throughout Kenya to increase value addition and productivity.

In the span of three months, he has launched fifteen initiatives under the partnership between the national and county governments.

Through the initiatives, Kuria invites both domestic and international investors to invest in the enterprise. During the current fiscal year, the government plans to establish 47 industrial parks across all counties at an estimated cost of Ksh4.7 billion.

Kuria’s transfer from Trade to Public Service has been interpreted as an effort by President Ruto to remove Kuria from a sensitive portfolio.

The reshuffle also coincides with Kuria’s exclusion from trade negotiations involving the United States, amid rumors that his outspoken nature tends to irritate some individuals.
