Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko has reshuffled his administration about a year after taking office in a move aimed at re-energizing service delivery.

Ayacko in a press conference at his official residence on Friday reshuffled four county executives and seven chief officers.

The governor also appointed in acting capacity existing chief officers to fill up three vacant departments that are yet to be advertised.

“These changes are geared towards re-energizing my administration, aligning departments for service delivery and general welfare of Migori residents,” Ayacko said.

The reshuffling came days after Ayacko and his deputy Gimunta Mahiri led senior county officials to sign a performance contract for the year they have been in office.

The contract signing will see the officers do comprehensive reports in the past year of their department, especially in service delivery to residents, and handed over in two weeks.

The changes and pressure for senior county government officials to deliver come after a slow start in the Ayacko administration in terms of development which has seen residents, especially on social media question the scorecard.

“We are doing as best as we can, we had a slow start because of challenges we inherited on huge debts and pending bills, we have paid critical ones,” Ayacko said.

Ayacko said they were obligated legally to pay the debts and ensure medical services were efficient.

He said in the past year, his administration has also put back energy on road maintenance, financing and building new municipalities, agriculture, and education.

“So far we are on the right track, we have seen areas where we will re-energize to ensure service delivery to Wananchi is on the right track,” Ayacko said.

Among the changes made is county executive Rahab Robi Chacha moved from Environment and Disaster Management to Education and Youth Services.

Mercy Okwanyo moved from Trade and Tourism to Public Service Management.

Betty Samburu has been moved from Education and Youth Services to Trade and Tourism while Caleb Opondi was moved from Public Service Management to Environment and Disaster Management.

In addition to changes affecting seven chief officers, three of them have been appointed to pick up new roles in acting capacities in three departments.

Victor Omondi Ouya will head the Cooperative Development and Marketing, Rose Aoko Ogwang’ for Gender Inclusivity, Culture and Social Services, and Roselyne Atieno Otieno for Public Works and Infrastructure.

Ayacko said the delays in filling the three chief officers slots and other county staffing have been caused by the former Migori County Public Service Board which moved to court after it was impeached by the assembly.

Former board chair and former Awendo MP Jared Kopiyo and his members have been getting court orders stalling the work of the new board chaired by David Ocholla.

Kopiyo is currently the chairman of the Sony Sugar Company board.
