Maina Njenga Was Taken To A Well-Furnished Apartment In Naivasha, Lawyer Reports

Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was on Sunday night set free after an alleged abduction on Saturday night.

Njenga, who is reported to have been abducted alongside his aide Felix Lakishe was dropped in the Banana area, Kiambu County at around 10.00 p.m.

According to his lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, the abductors blindfolded Njenga and Lakishe on Saturday night before driving away to an unknown location.

โ€œNjenga says he was blindfolded and put in the vehicle. He was then driven for a long distance and taken to a well-furnished apartment. He was told he was in Naivasha,โ€ Njiru told PoliticalPulseChat in a phone interview.ย

The lawyer reports that after hours of engagement, Njenga was once more blindfolded as the abductors drove off to another destination.ย

โ€œWhen they stopped they told him that he was in Banana and he could find his way home. He took a motorbike and traced his way back home,โ€ he added.

His release came hours after the Azimio la Umoja coalition raised alarm on the abduction, accusing police of orchestrating it.

โ€œThe information we have suggests that the abductors did not identify themselves, nor did they state that he was under arrest. All indications point to this being an operation carried out by rogue police,โ€ Azimio said in a statement on Sunday.

Njenga is set to appear before the Makadara Law Court today (Monday) to answer pending charges.

Together with his aide and brother, was arrested on July 19 on accusations of having 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus, and three jembe sticks.

On July 25, they were released on bail.ย
