Lumakanda MCA Aspirant Godfrey Mapesa Dies in Grisly Accident
Godfrey Mapesa, a candidate vying for the Lumakanda Ward position in the 2022 general election, tragically passed away in a morning accident on April 14th.
On Sunday, Senator Boni Khalwale from Kakamega disclosed that a colleague from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) tragically passed away while traveling in his private vehicle.
It’s been said that his vehicle collided in the Mwamba region within Lugari, situated in Kakamega County.
At the time this article was published, information regarding the accident remained limited. There was still uncertainty about whether the MCA was the sole casualty in the morning incident.
Mapesa attempted to contest the Lumakanda MCA position in the 2022 elections under the UDA banner. However, he was defeated by the incumbent MCA, Benard Wanyonyi Mulama Bokanda.
Bokanda, along with fellow regional leaders, expressed condolences for the departed politician, portraying Mapesa as an energetic leader whose passing will deeply affect the entire Luhya community.
“We as Lumakanda Ward people have lost. Rest in Peace Brother, friend, and colleague,” Bokanda stated on his official social media handles.
Khalwale also expressed sorrow for the young politician, remarking on the challenge of accepting Mapesa’s passing.

“It’s hard to come to terms with this. I extend my condolences to the people of Lumakanda ward, his family, colleagues, and friends,” read his condolence message in part.
The demise of the MCA hopeful follows the passing of a police officer in the vicinity of Mwamba due to another tragic accident.
On April 11, it was reported that a police officer, who was on a motorcycle, was fatally struck by a trailer in an accident.
The report indicates that the officer was on vacation and riding a motorcycle when a truck hit him from behind.
Furthermore, another law enforcement officer lost their life in a separate incident that took place on Saturday, April 13, on the Marsabit-Moyale Highway.
The event took place when the car purportedly drifted off the highway, then flipped several times before finally halting in a nearby dense vegetation area in the Kambi Nyoka region.
