Legal Setback: Ruto’s Lawyer Stunned by Kisii Deputy Governor Impeachment Verdict
On Tuesday, President William Ruto’s attorney, Katwa Kigen, experienced a setback when the court rejected the request to stop the impeachment motion against Kisii Deputy Governor Dr. Robert Monda.
Kigen, acting on behalf of the Deputy Governor, attempted to prevent the Kisii County Assembly from hastening the motion.
“I, Katwa Kigen, do certify that the application is of utmost urgency as the petitioner is at the peril of irreparable injury of being subjected to a process of impeachment,” read the court documents
Yet, the judge refused to approve the dismissal of the case, stating that Monda would not face any unfair treatment if the legal proceedings were to continue to a hearing.
When applying, the attorney pointed out that if the County Assembly were to move forward with the motion, the Deputy Governor would be deprived of his constitutional entitlement to a fair trial hearing.
Nevertheless, regardless of the request, the judge asserted that there would be no harm caused if the court refrains from issuing interim orders at this point.

“I am not inclined to grant the interim orders at this stage and I say no more, as it may prejudice the outcome of the proceedings herein,” noted the judge.
As a result, the Deputy Governor is anticipated to attend the impeachment case hearing before the Kisii County Assembly sometime this week.
Past events related to the matter reveal an increasing conflict within the Kisii County Government, as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) are split on the issue of Monda’s impeachment.
In the midst of a House session, a physical altercation erupted among the Members of County Assembly (MCAs) following the Speaker of the Assembly’s mention of the motion.
The members of the County Assembly (MCAs) under the leadership of Ichuni Ward MCA Wyclife Siocha objected to the referral, whereas the opposing faction endorsed the speaker’s decision.
Dr. Monda faces accusations of purportedly abusing his office and violating the constitution in his role, allegations that the deputy governor has refuted.
