Kuria Points Finger: Gachagua Accused in Meru Governor’s Troubles
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria hinted on Wednesday that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s comments may have led to the arrest of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
The CS questioned what the DP meant when he instructed the leaders of Meru County to resolve their disputes while sharing the arrest video.
“Is this what Gachagua meant that ‘Meru problems be solved in Meru by Merians’,” he inquired.
CS Kuria stated that it was unacceptable for the current administration to harass dissenters in the same manner as the previous administration.
“It is wrong to harass Governor Kawira Mwangaza in the same way the other government was harassing some of us,” he told reporters.
Gachagua announced on October 1 that he would refrain from intervening in the country’s ongoing disputes and allow the elected leaders to resolve the issues.

The second-in-command disclosed that he and President William Ruto would not intervene as they had earlier in the year when Mwanganza faced impeachment.
Mwangaza was arrested in Imenti Central Sub-County during one of her charity events, “one cow per needy family project.”
According to the governor, the police refused to transport her to the police station and file charges against her. Apparently, she was detained in the police cruiser for two hours.
“I am under arrest now for donating a cow to a needy family,” she told reporters.
The police, however, explained that it was a case of mistaken identity and released the governor. The officers issued an apology and stated that the incident was not intentional.
The National Police Service (NPS) clarified that, contrary to her claims, the governor was not apprehended.
