Kitengela: Woman Arrested for Keeping Deceased Husband’s Body, Awaiting Resurrection
A woman is in police custody after being found with the decomposing body of her deceased husband.
The 58-year-old was discovered to have kept the body at their Sifa farm on the outskirts of Kitengela town, Citizen TV reported.
State law enforcers, acting on a tip-off from the woman’s neighbors, stormed the homestead.
Kitengela locals’ complaints over stench
The neighbors had put up with a strong stench from the home for a time before contacting the police.
Police stormed the house after neighbors informed them about the stench emanating from the woman’s compound.
They found the body on a bed in the living room.
“The police went into the compound and found the woman alone. She looked sick, tired, and emaciated. She was shaking a lot,” a source confided in Citizen TV.
On interrogation, the woman, a Tanzanian, revealed she awaited her husband’s resurrection, thus her reluctance in disposing of the body.
According to the neighbors, the childless couple belonged to a sect before the man’s death.
The woman was taken to the Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital for mental assessment as the body got booked into the City Mortuary ahead of interment in Nyeri.
As borne in the Kenyan penal code, it is an offense for a person to unlawfully hinder the burial of a dead body.
Woman’s body found in Kikuyu apartment
Similarly, police in Kiambu recently investigated a bizarre incident in which a middle-aged woman’s body was found at an apartment in Kikuyu.
Kikuyu police boss Ronald Kirui said his juniors were alerted of the events by the apartment’s caretaker, who received complaints about the foul smell from the unit’s neighbors.
The body was taken to the morgue as the police carried on with their probe.
