Foreign Affairs CS Alfred Mutua announced that Kenya will deploy 1,000 police officers to help train and assist Haitian police in restoring normalcy and protecting strategic installations.

Taking to Twitter on Saturday, the CS stated, “Kenya stands with persons of African descent across the world, including those in the Caribbean, and aligns with the African Union’s diaspora policy and our commitment to Pan Africanism, in this instance to “reclaiming of the Atlantic crossing.”

He stated that Kenya’s proposed deployment will occur after obtaining a mandate from the UN Security Council and completing other constitutional procedures.

“Within the coming weeks, a Task Team of the Kenya Police will conduct an Assessment Mission. This assessment will inform and direct the mission’s mandate and operational requirements, said Mutua.

Dr. Mutua reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to working with other African nations, including Sudan, Eastern DRC, and Niger, to attain peace and stability.

Regarding the ongoing conflict in Sudan, Mutua stated that Kenya, in its capacity as the chair of IGAD’s Quartet, would explore all avenues to guarantee the nation’s cessation of hostilities.

“Kenya supports several initiatives that intend to restore stability in the Republic of Sudan, including IGAD, the Jeddah process, and the initiative of Sudan’s neighbors. Harmonization and/or alignment of strategy between the numerous initiatives is essential for a successful solution, he stated.

“From a position of neutrality, we will continue to engage with stakeholders from across the political spectrum and to urge strong solidarity with the people of Sudan.”

Moreover, CS Mutua lauded the ongoing peace efforts between Kenya and the DRC to ensure that the central African nation achieves peace.

He reiterated President William Ruto’s recent comments regarding the coup in Niger, insisting that the military coup is a violation of African Union norms.

Kenya condemns the military overthrow of Niger’s president Mohamed Bazoum and demands his unequivocal release. Mutua stated that the coup constituted a flagrant violation of the norms of the African Union, which prohibit unconstitutional change of government.
