KDF Plane Crash: Passengers Onboard

A Kenya Airforce aircraft carrying passengers collapsed in the Rift Valley region mere minutes after takeoff.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 20, the Kenya Defense Forces confirmed that the aircraft’s entire personnel and passenger complement had survived.

The occupants were en route to Nairobi from an official assignment when the helicopter experienced mechanical difficulties and crashed.

The military helicopter, designated as a Fennec helicopter, reportedly spent little time in the air after takeoff.

The Kenya Defense Forces also reassured the general public that their personnel will recover fully, as those involved in the accident were receiving adequate medical care.

“All passengers disembarked safely and are in stable condition,” the Kenya Defense Forces confirmed in a press release.

The investigations will examine the intricate and time-consuming procedures of numerous organizations, including government agencies, aircraft manufacturers, and insurance companies.

Typically, the purpose of an air crash investigation is to ascertain the cause of the crash and make recommendations to prevent similar crashes in the future.

KDF will investigate whether the accident was caused by human error, the most common cause of air crashes. It can include pilot error, errors in personnel coordination, and passenger interference.

Additionally, investigators will attempt to determine if the accident was caused by mechanical failure, which can include issues with the aircraft’s engines, systems, or structure.

On Thursday, June 24, 2021, ten Kenya Air Force personnel were killed and thirteen others were injured when their aircraft crash-landed in Oltepesi, Kajiado West.

Special forces were conducting routine training when the helicopter plummeted. While KDF helicopter accidents have occurred in the past, the majority of them did not result in fatalities.
