Kakamega Governor Barasa Reshuffles Cabinet, Strips DG Savula Of CEC Role

Governor Fernandes Barasa of Kakamega has reduced the authority of his Deputy Governor Ayub Savula by removing him from his position as a County Executive Committee Member (CECM).

Savula is the CECM for Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism.

He has been replaced by Zaccheaus Muya Lutomia, who will undertake the position once the Kakamega County Assembly has approved him.

According to the governor, Savula’s removal from the CECM position was part of Barasa’s reorganization of his cabinet to ensure effective service delivery.

During the cabinet reshuffle, Bonface Okoth was transferred from the position of Head of the Public Service to the position of Head of the Education Department in the county.

Toward the 2022 general election, the Deputy Governor joined forces with Barasa, abandoning the Amani National Congress to work with the governor elected on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

He explained in September 2022 that he switched sides because he was threatened with corruption prosecution if he did not join Azimio.

“I was coerced to support Azimio and that is the truth. I decided to persevere because when they jail me and my wives, who will pay the bail,” he stated then.
