Jalang’o Vows to Sue Citizen Weekly Over Article Linking Him to Fake Gold Syndicate

Langata MP Phelix Odiwuor popularly known as Jalang’o has pledged to take stern action against Citizen Weekly newspaper for publishing a story that he has claimed is defamatory.

The weekly newspaper’s article linked the Lang’ata representative to a Ksh1 billion gold fraud, which the lawmaker denied.

In a statement, the lawmaker lashed out at the publication, accusing it of making unsubstantiated claims.

“Rogue media must be dealt with! After the steps I want to take against Citizen Weekly, I don’t think they will ever sit down and write a defamatory story on anyone again then call to extort you in the name of we will clean your name! I’ll not fall for that nonsense! Good day!” the MP said in the statement.

Citizen Weekly also linked Senator Allan Chesang of Trans Nzoia and MP Zaheer Jhanda of Nyaribari Chache to the phony gold syndicate.

While characterizing the media organization as rogue, Jalang’o claimed that the publisher has developed a propensity for publishing unsubstantiated negative stories about prominent figures.

According to Jalang’o, the allegations leveled against him are extortion attempts, but he has sworn that they will fail.

The representative stated that he is willing to go above and beyond to defend his name and restore his reputation.

The Orange Democratic Movement Party’s decision to expel Jalango and two other politicians for disloyalty was deferred by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) just hours before Jalango’s statement.

The Tribunal issued the order in response to a lawsuit submitted against the trio’s expulsion.

“In the interim and pending the hearing and determination of this Application, this Honorable Tribunal hereby issues interim conservatory orders staying the implementation and/or execution of the decision of the 1st Respondent to expel the Complainant, Hon. Phelix Odiwuor, from the Orange Democratic Movement Party,” read the tribunal’s ruling.
