On Friday, Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo announced the reassignment of at least 117 deputy commissioners.

Omollo instructed regional commissioners to release the affected officials by July 24.

“These Deputy County Commissioners have been approved for immediate transfer,” he stated in a memo.

The reassignments include Martin Muriithi moving from the Office of the President to Bungoma North, William Bett to Sabatia, Ronald Enyakasa to the OOP headquarters, Buxton Mayabi to Mukaa, and Dubat Mohamed to Bodhai.

Tobias Okoth was transferred from Nairobi to North Horr, John Oroche to Turkana West, Walter Katonon to Isiolo, Ann Wafukho to Gem Wagai, David Lusava to Marakwet West, Robert Nzuki to Rangwe, Margret Mbugua to Gatundu North, John Birgen to Teso South, and Patrick Ngoru to Samburu in Kwale.

Additionally, Omollo reassigned Keneddy Changandu to Mt Elgon, James Kehoro to Athi River, Jeremiah Gicheru to Kasarani, Catherine Kanini to Makadara, Philip Koima to Nandi North, Christopher Sirma to Mathare, Eric Mulevu to Embakasi, and Mohamed Abass to Kibra.

Regional, county, and deputy county commissioners typically oversee security meetings and other national administration responsibilities.

The previous provincial administration was reorganized to integrate the new commissioner roles.

This restructuring was a result of the 2010 constitution, which replaced Provincial Commissioners with Regional Commissioners (RCs) who now manage and coordinate national government matters in their areas, including security.

The National Administration, a department within the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, employs 12,575 staff members. This includes eight regional coordinators, 47 county commissioners, 289 deputy county commissioners, 831 assistant county commissioners, 3,256 chiefs, and 8,145 assistant chiefs.
