Highest Record: 1.4 million candidates to sit for 2023 KCPE exams

Education PS Belio Kipsang has said that 2023 has the highest number of KCPE candidates in history.

He said over 3.5 million candidates will sit for national examinations with KCPE candidates covering the most soaring number ever recorded in the country.

This includes candidates eligible for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

โ€œJust under a million will sit for KCSE this year, 1.4 million for KCPE, and 1.2 million for KPSEA,โ€ Kipsang said.

Kipsang was speaking on Wednesday in a meeting with Field Education Officers and officials of the National Government Administration Officers(NGAO) over the forthcoming KCPE and KCSE examinations.

He said the Ministry of Education noticed there were 300,000 additional learners when they were analyzing KCPE data.

He said some of them are adults who registered as private candidates.

KCPE and KPSEA candidates will have their rehearsal on October 27, 2023. The tests for both levels will start on October 30 and go through November 1, 2023.

KNEC announced that KCSE exams will start on October 23, 2023, and end on November 24, 2023.

The rehearsals will take place on October 19, 2023.

The PS underscored that the government is fully prepared to ensure the national exams are not disrupted by the El Nino rains.

โ€œAll areas that may be affected by flooding are being mapped. We are mobilizing all government equipment, including our helicopters from the military, Kenya Police Service, Kenya Forest Service, and Kenya Wildlife Service. We are taking measures to ensure that the rains do not disrupt the exams,โ€ Kipsang said.

He assured that the government will make sure candidates from banditry and terror attack areas are safe and secured as they sit for their exams.
