Governor Wavinya Blames Rivals for Tuesday’s Machakos Protest Chaos
Governor Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos accused her political rivals of orchestrating the protests that caused significant damage to businesses and property in the county on Tuesday.
She alleged that these opponents aimed to undermine her administration by creating chaos that reflected poorly on the County Government’s ability to maintain order.
According to Governor Ndeti, individuals posing as peaceful protesters perpetrated violence by attacking and injuring numerous bodaboda operators, seizing four motorcycles, and setting them on fire in Mlolongo.
She added that the attackers also targeted various businesses, seizing valuable property.
In a Wednesday statement, the county leader expressed regret for those affected by the purported criminal gangs masquerading as legitimate protestors.
“My attention has been drawn to the ugly incidents and acts of lawlessness that were witnessed in Mlolongo town, where an organized gang of criminals reined terror on peace-abiding bodaboda operators who were going about their normal business peacefully,” said the governor.

“It is unfortunate that such an incident was planned by individuals who profess to be leaders and expect to be respected for who they are.”
Governor Ndeti urged law enforcement, including the police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and other security agencies, to launch investigations into recent events and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
This follows a series of incidents observed across Kenya, including Machakos, over the past week.
In her address discouraging theft and property damage, Wavinya appealed to young people to abstain from such behavior.
She issued a stern caution to criminals infiltrating protests organized by Kenyan youth.
This is amid ongoing anti-government demonstrations that have swept through various regions of the nation.
Led mostly by Generation Z, the protesters have maintained pressure on the government to enhance accountability and governance, evolving from initial protests against the 2024 Finance Bill.
