Fire Burns Down School For Second Time In 2 Days- Kisii

Hundreds of pupils at Riomego Primary School in Kisii County are counting losses after a mysterious fire razed down one of the school dormitories on Saturday afternoon.

This is the third time this week that a fire incident has been reported from the school, with two similar incidents taking place on Thursday.

Even so, firefighters sent by the County Government were able to arrive at the scene on time and helped contain the fire before it escalated.

In the tragic incident, only a few students out of the hundreds managed to save their property as the inferno quickly spread through the building.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported from all three fire incidents.

The prime cause of the fire is yet to be established but investigations have since been launched to unravel more details.

On Thursday this week, the Kenya Red Cross reported a fire incident in the same school where a fire completely burnt down two dormitories, at noon and evening respectively.

“Riomego Boarding School in Nyamira County is facing a fire emergency. Our response team, actively engaged in response efforts and collaboration, is working to address the situation,” read part of a statement by Kenya Red Cross.

In another similar incident on the same day, Thursday, February 1, a fire burnt down a dormitory at St. John’s Girls Secondary School in Kaloleni in Kilifi County, prompting the school management to send students home.

Police officers were able to arrive on time and helped put out the fire with the aid of the firefighters and community members.

While commenting on the matter, Kaloleni Member of Parliament Paul Katana disclosed he agreed with the school management to release the students to ease their panic attacks.

“The students are traumatized a bit, we have allowed them to go and stay with their parents. Meanwhile, we are making some arrangements to have a makeshift dormitory. As you can see everything has been destroyed,” the MP added.
