EACC Frees ex-CS Yattani, Governor Mohamud
The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission has freed the former Treasury CS Ukur Yattani and Marsabit Governor Ali Mohamud Mohamed.
The two were arrested on Wednesday morning for investigations on allegations of graft.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said the commission successfully conducted investigative operations at the properties of the two leaders.
“All the suspects have been granted conditional release to report back to EACC Offices in one week to facilitate the ongoing investigation,” Ngumbi said.
“The Commission will continue to conduct its investigations independently, impartially, and professionally, and by its mandate as spelled under the law.”
The Commission said the two leaders were arrested alongside other nine suspects.

“As part of the investigations, today, the Commission conducted successful investigative operations at properties belonging to the sitting Governor for Marsabit County Government Ali Mohamud Mohamed and former County Governor Ukur Yattani located in Nairobi and Marsabit town and obtained valuable evidence that will bolster the ongoing investigations. The operations were under court orders,” Ngumbi added.
According to EACC, it is investigating allegations of corruption and economic crimes including conflict of interest, embezzlement of public funds, and abuse of office amounting to more than Sh8 billion against officials of Marsabit.
Ngumbi said the amount is part of public funds allegedly mismanaged from Marsabit in the period 2014-2024.
Yattani served as Marsabit Governor between 2013 to 2017 and was appointed CS by Former President Uhuru Kenyatta after losing the gubernatorial to Governor Mohamud.
