DP Gachagua Dispels Media-Made Rift with President Ruto
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has denied any miscommunication between himself and his superior, President William Ruto, claiming that the media is fabricating the story.
Sunday at a church service in Kiambu, Gachagua stated that false rumors have circulated for the past two weeks regarding his working relationship with Ruto.
He claimed that the media and their “political detractors” propagated the rumor.
“I have seen a narrative that was being driven by the media in the last two weeks, ooh there is a problem in the presidency, ooh the DP and the President are not together. How? How?” Gachagua wondered.
He further stated that the narrative is plausible due to the fact that Kenya has experienced president-deputy conflict since the country’s independence.
“So our media and our analysts cannot stay when there is no conflict. So they must create one for them to be relevant,” Gachagua remarked.

The DP identified possible sources of the narrative, stating that they initially made reference to a dispute with Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi and then selected President Ruto’s denial of the shareholders’ narrative during his visit to Nyanza.
Gachagua, who voted for Ruto and is therefore the Kenya Kwanza administration’s shareholders, was the most ardent supporter of the shareholders narrative, arguing that they should be prioritized over others.
“I know most of you were very disappointed when the president won because you were very determined to stop him. And you had every hope that he would fail, yet he is succeeding. You now think there will be a conflict, I want to assure you there will be no conflict in the government of President William Ruto.”
When Gachagua, who was in Germany on an official engagement, was unable to attend the initial days of King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s sojourn in Kenya, the purported dispute sparked considerable gossip.
An invitation extended to opposition leader Raila Odinga to attend a state banquet at State House, where he was spotted smiling with Ruto and the monarch, fueled the rumor.
