DCI Officers Stop PSV, Eject Passenger Who Killed Police Officer and 2 Chiefs in 2019
The Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) apprehended a terror suspect thought to be the leader of a gang responsible for the 2019 murders of a police officer and two chiefs.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced on Sunday evening that the suspect was apprehended during an operation on the Lamu-Malindi Road.
The suspect was a passenger on the bus traveling to Malindi when law enforcement conducted an operation and took him into custody.
The bus heading to Malindi was stopped by officers working together with the Special Operations Group (SOG) at a roadblock near the Sambaki Bridge.
“A wanted terror suspect involved in the brutal killings of a police officer and two chiefs in Lamu County in December 2019 has been arrested,” DCI announced.
“The suspect was flushed out of a Malindi-bound bus in a Sunday afternoon operation by Anti-Terrorism Police augmented by their Special Operations Group (SOG) counterparts.”

Authorities reported that the suspect, along with his partners, carried out the gruesome killings in December 2019.
They quickly took cover in Boni Forest to avoid capture and then sought safety in a nearby country after being driven out by the authorities.
“In April 2023, three members of his gang dared a return into the country but were intercepted and arrested along the Isiolo-Moyale highway while heading to Somalia.
“They were charged at the Kahawa Law Courts and their case is ongoing,” added the DCI statement.
The authorities further revealed that a hunt for several suspects still at large was still ongoing.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki had earlier vowed a crackdown that would weed out all criminal elements in Lamu County.
