CS Moses Kuria Lists 8 Changes for NYS Ahead of Nationwide Recruitment
Moses Kuria, the Public Service Cabinet Secretary, has revealed eight modifications that will be implemented at the National Youth Service (NYS) in preparation for the upcoming nationwide recruitment process set to take place from February 5 to 9.
As per Kuria, the goal of the eight modifications is to enhance the service and create employment opportunities for Kenyan individuals joining NYS.
Initially, under the updated model, a significant majority, specifically 80 percent, of individuals joining the National Police Service (NPS) and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will be sourced from the National Youth Service (NYS).
This fresh approach to recruitment will also be applied in the process of identifying candidates for the Kenya Forest Services (KFS) and the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS).
Conversely, the Civil Service (CS) revealed that individuals enlisted in the New York State (NYS) recruitment program will secure the majority of employment opportunities negotiated by the government in foreign countries.

In the latest framework, 70 percent of individuals sent abroad for employment will be comprised of Kenyan NYS officers.
“NYS recruits will receive paramilitary and technical training of the highest standards.
“NYS servicemen and women will be deployed for National Service in securing government buildings, construction, engineering, water, sanitation, agriculture, and climate change mitigation among others,” the CS stated.
Regarding the hiring process, the CS mentioned that the names of individuals who successfully secure the position will be disclosed on a publicly accessible platform to promote openness.
“Recruitment in the NYS will be done transparently in all Sub County Headquarters. All successful candidates will go home with their admission letters and their details pasted at the recruitment center and a public portal for transparency,” the CS stated.
NYS Recruitment
During the period from February 5 to 9, a nationwide recruitment drive for NYS is scheduled to take place.
The program is designed for individuals in Kenya aged 18 to 24 who achieved a grade of D plain or higher in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
“Prospective candidates must produce an original National Identity Card, academic certificates (and avail of one set of photocopies of the same at the recruitment center), and a certificate of Good Conduct.
“Successful candidates will report for the NYS paramilitary course at NYS College, Gigil, and NYSTTI Naivasha on dates and times specified in their respective calling letters to be issued,” read the recruitment notice in part.
