Babu Owino Opens Up on Strained ODM Bonds, Reveals Candid Insights into Relationship with Raila

On Thursday, March 7, Babu Owino, the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, expressed his dissatisfaction with the absence of affection within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

In an interview with Radio 47, the candid lawmaker asserted that the hostility from certain members of the party was politically orchestrated.

He credits the animosity to his firm insistence on garnering support for a party stance in the National Assembly.

However, Babu Owino made it clear that even though there were disagreements, his connection with party leader Raila Odinga remained strong.

The lawmaker asserted that internal party competition would not hinder him from serving his constituents, emphasizing his commitment to focusing on broader issues.

“I know very well I am not in love with the party, but that does not stop me from loving the party leader. I am looking at the bigger picture,” Babu stated.

“I told myself that I love my leader, let me just love him the way he is. Sometimes I can not be loved, something which is okay, and that is God’s will,” he added.

The legislator asserted that disclosing these concerns publicly could lead to an immediate expulsion from the party, explaining the rationale behind not going public with the issues.

“Since I am not loved at the party, I cannot go into the public and start saying I am not loved, yet people are indeed seeing it.”

The legislator expressing dissatisfaction with the party is not a new occurrence. In September 2022, Babu Owino lamented feeling betrayed within the ODM party.

The legislator asserted that the party showed ingratitude towards its dedicated supporters, who not only remained loyal but also made significant investments in it.

However, the Member of Parliament categorically dismissed the idea of leaving the party while advocating for improved treatment of young individuals in upcoming interactions.

“ODM Party, so many youth and myself sacrificed a lot and used our resources in the party over the years, our pay is betrayal and blackmail. It is fine. Tomorrow is another day,” Babu Owino remarked.
