Mt. Kenya Leaders Clash Over Limuru III Conference
Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni have confirmed that the Limuru III Conference scheduled for this Friday will proceed as planned.
The two, having received the backing of the Kikuyu Council of Elders, emphasized that the conference will focus on substantive issues and be open to all participants.
This decision stands despite Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah’s claims that the conference will be ineffective since its resolutions will not lead to actionable outcomes.
Karua and Kioni have promoted Limuru III as a platform to guide the Mt. Kenya region’s future, with support from 31 parties aiming to advocate for the region’s interests.
Nevertheless, evident divisions have emerged from the start, with some original proponents of the idea distancing themselves from the Karua-Kioni initiative.
“Our community has the right to decide and express how they wish to be governed. At Limuru III, we will clearly state our governance preferences,” stated Wachira Kiago, Chairperson of the Kikuyu Council of Elders.
Karua remarked, “We have discussed leadership broadly without exclusions. Whether we anticipate any disturbances, we have issued a general caution, and that is all.”
Organizers say the conference will review declining business prospects in Mt. Kenya, attributed to government policies while aiming to unite despite internal political differences.

The government has indicated, however, that there will be no mechanisms to address the conference’s resolutions.
“We, the people of Kiambu, cannot afford to engage in ethnic politics. Some have been gathering people, telling them to go to Limuru III to discuss community matters. The community we will discuss is the Kenyan community,” stated Ichung’wah.
DP Gachagua added, “The President believes a good idea should give way to a better idea. Instead of disrupting the people of Limuru amid floods and other challenges, I urge my sister Martha Karua and Jeremiah Kioni to join us in finding solutions.”
The conference is happening shortly after DP Gachagua apologized to First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta for involving her in political discussions.
Gachagua, advocating for unity, also reached out to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, following a period of political tension due to opposition protests that some Kenya Kwanza leaders attributed to Kenyatta’s financial support.
“I apologize for involving Mama Ngina Kenyatta in the last general election’s politics. She is our mother. I ask for forgiveness on behalf of our team for any distress caused to her. I will never allow anyone to disrespect her or anyone from the region,” Gachagua previously stated.
“Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is our son. We worked together for 17 years and only disagreed for 2 years, which is now in the past. I pray for him in his retirement. Uhuru is one of us, and we will engage with everyone.”
