Nicola Bulley’s family blames stopping menopause drugs for health crisis
Lancashire Police has been criticized for disclosing that the mother of two had “significant issues with alcohol” in the past, which were caused by “ongoing struggles with the menopause.”
Nicola Bulley’s family claims the missing mother of two experienced a “crisis” after she stopped taking menopause medications, revealing details about her struggles before her disappearance.

Relatives also pleaded with the public to stop the “appalling” speculation and “rumors” about her private life, as they described the “significant” side effects she experienced due to perimenopause.
Nicola Bulley’s family blames stopping menopause drugs for health crisis. Ms. Bulley, according to her family, suffered from brain fog and restless sleep and stopped taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which is commonly used to treat menopausal symptoms, because it gave her “intense headaches.”
In a statement, they said, “Due to the perimenopause, Nikki suffered from significant side effects such as brain fog and restless sleep. She was taking HRT to help, but this was giving her intense headaches, causing Nikki to stop taking the HRT in the belief that it would help her, but it caused this crisis.”
It comes a day after Lancashire Police disclosed that Ms. Bulley had previously struggled with “significant alcohol issues” brought on by her “ongoing menopause struggles.”

The 45-year-old woman has been missing since January 27, when she vanished while walking her dog along the River Wyre in Lancashire.
Additionally, Ms. Bulley’s family stated that the public’s attention “must be on finding her” and not on “making up wild theories about her personal life.”
The assertion continued: “As a family, we believe that the public’s attention has shifted away from finding Nikki and toward speculation and rumors about her and Paul’s private lives.
“As a family, we were aware that Lancashire Police had issued a statement containing personal information about Nikki last night.
“People are speculating and threatening to sell stories about Nikki, even though we are aware that she would not have wanted this. This is abhorrent and must end immediately.
The focus of the public must be on locating her, not on speculating about her private life.
Police were criticized for sharing personal information
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) stated that it had contacted Lancashire Police to “determine if a referral to the IOPC may be required” after information about the mother’s private life was released following a press conference on Wednesday.
The Lancashire force had initially refused to elaborate on “vulnerabilities” which made Ms. Bulley a high-risk missing person but later released a statement about her medical and mental health issues.
Lancashire Police has come under criticism for revealing Ms. Bulley’s struggles with alcohol.
The family’s statement, however, made it clear that the police “know the truth about Nikki.”
Contrary to what some media outlets and individuals have reported, the family is receiving daily updates and assistance from family liaison officers.

The local officers’ defense follows widespread criticism of how Ms. Bulley’s personal information was handled.
This week, two members of Parliament criticized the apparent “victim shaming” in Lancashire Police’s disclosures.
And Martyn Underhill, a former detective involved in the Sarah Payne case in 2000, told Sky News that the force “destroyed” Ms. Bulley’s reputation, adding that he was “confused” by the force’s strategy.
The diving expert assisting police in their search for Ms. Bulley told Sky News that if they had known she was “high risk,” it would have “changed our entire search.”
Lancashire Police criticized online sleuths for spreading false information about the disappearance of Ms. Bulley and stated that rumors “distract” officers from investigating the case.
“Your girls desire a hug”
The family’s request that rumors cease included a direct message to Ms. Bulley.
It said: “Nikki is such a wonderful daughter, sister, partner, and mother and is missed dearly – we all need you back in our lives.
“Nikki, we hope you are reading this and know that we love you so much and your girls want a cuddle.
“Everyone needs you home. You can contact us, or you can reach out to MissingPeople.org.uk.
“Don’t be scared, we all love you so very much.”
Ms. Bulley was last seen at 9.10 am on 27 January taking her usual route with her springer spaniel Willow, alongside the River Wyre.
Her phone, which was still connected to a work call for her job as a mortgage adviser, was discovered approximately twenty minutes later on a bench overlooking the riverbank, along with her dog.
