8 Roles Ruto Has Given General Francis Ogolla in New Appointment
On Friday, March 15, President William Ruto named General Francis Ogolla to head a task force responsible for advancing the development of the Kenya Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park situated in the Lake Turkana Basin.
In his notification of appointment, Ruto emphasized that Ogolla and his team would be responsible for eight duties, one of which involves identifying and documenting historical landmarks within the basin.
Specifically, the team will have the responsibility of charting regions associated with the earliest human ancestors. Turkana is renowned as the birthplace of humanity because of findings like Australopithecus and the well-known Homo erectus, commonly referred to as the “Turkana Boy”.
Additionally, Ogolla and his team were assigned the responsibility of conducting research on the fossils discovered in the region and creating a database to document their findings.
The head of KDF was assigned the responsibility of conducting research on certain artifacts removed from the country and formulating plans for their repatriation.
The task force will also create ideas for exhibitions and narratives linked to the suggested venue.
“They will also develop a sustainable tourism marketing strategy for Kenya Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park in Lake Turkana Basin and develop a comprehensive investment plan for the park and museum,” read the notice in part.

“The task force will also develop a prioritized implementation matrix that clearly states the immediate, medium, and long-term plans for the project and the attendant budgetary requirements necessary for the successful execution of the project,” read the notice in part.
As per the President’s instruction, the task force will commence its new duties within a year.
“The costs incurred by the Presidential Taskforce in the performance of its functions shall be defrayed from the voted funds of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.
“The secretariat of the Presidential Taskforce shall be based at the Ministry of Defence,” Ruto directed.
Ogolla’s committee will comprise Principal Secretaries from various sectors including the National Treasury, Defense, Wildlife, Tourism, Culture, The Arts, Heritage, and Shipping, as well as Maritime Affairs.
