47 Injured After Bus Accident In Londiani

47 individuals were injured when a bus they were riding in swerved off a highway in Londiani and ended up in a roadside trench.

A Friday statement from the Kenya Red Cross reported that the incident took place at approximately 8:00 am.

Members of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) quickly responded to the accident site and transported the injured individuals to Fort Tenan Sub-County Hospital. They collaborated with the Kericho County Government in this effort.

“Forty-seven injured individuals have been swiftly taken to Fort Tenan Sub County Hospital by the County Government,” read the statement by Kenya Red Cross.

“Additionally, seven people escaped unharmed. The scene has been cleared by the Kenya Police.”

The accident occurred along Londiani – Muhoroni Road in Kericho County.

The collision occurred seven days following another incident involving a 62-passenger bus at an identical location, resulting in 40 people sustaining injuries.

“40 casualties evacuated to Fort Tenarn Hospital; 4 referred to Kericho County Referral Hospital by County ambulance and well-wishers,” a statement from the Red Cross stated at the time.

The devastating incident occurred nearly half a year following the death of 52 individuals at that exact location.

Following the tragic incident on July 1, Kipchumba Murkomen, the Transport Cabinet Secretary, pledged to the Kenyan people that they wouldn’t see a similar catastrophe occurring on that bustling highway in the future.

Earlier this month, Police Inspector General Japhet Koome issued a travel warning for both drivers and their passengers, highlighting that within the last week, 16 individuals had tragically died.

“The National Police Service has the mandate to enforce traffic laws. However, I wish to emphasize that road safety is our collective responsibility as Kenyans. We must change our behavior on the roads,” Koome explained.

“Therefore, I am appealing to pedestrians, cyclists, boda boda riders, passengers, and drivers to adhere to traffic rules so that we make this festive season safe for all of us.”
