Francis Ogolla
On April 18, 2024, President William Ruto broke the tragic news of the death of General Francis Omondi Ogolla, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). The general lost his life during official duties in Elgeyo Marakwet County when a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) helicopter crashed.
“At 2:20 pm today, our nation suffered a devastating air accident in Elgeyo Marakwet. It is with profound sorrow that I announce the passing of General Francis Omondi Ogolla and nine other brave military officers. Two others survived the crash,” Ruto announced.
Ogolla was buried on April 21, 2024, in Alego Usonga, Siaya County, as per his will, which requested burial within 72 hours of his passing. President Ruto assured the public that an investigation into the crash would be released.
