Winnie Odinga to Join Demonstrations

Winnie Odinga, daughter of opposition leader Raila Odinga, has announced that she will participate in the anti-government demonstrations scheduled for today, Monday, January 20.

A member of the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) wrote on social media, “meet me on the streets.”

The EALA representative was an integral part of her father’s 2022 election campaigns and a vocal supporter of his political ambitions.

Earlier, while criticizing Raila for calling for protests, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua dared him to allow Winnie Odinga to join the demonstrations.

“Those who wish to see our children on the streets have arranged for their children to attend EALA in Arusha. If he desires street protests, it is acceptable. Gachagua told Raila, “Let your daughter and son come from Arusha and physically lead the demonstrations, and the rest of the Kenyans will follow.”

Raila urged his supporters to turn out in large numbers on Sunday night, stating, “Now is the time to stand up for democracy and the future of our nation. Join us in person and online for the Date with Destiny.”

Other leaders of the Azimio la Umoja coalition have stated that they will participate in the march to the State House.

Winnie also claimed on Monday morning that all electronic devices have been hacked and are now useless.

Since then, a heavy police presence has been observed in the city, and all roads leading to the State House have been barricaded.
