Uhuru’s Tactical Move: Registrar of Parties Blunder Helps Oust Kega from Jubilee

Jeremiah Kioni, the embattled secretary general of Jubilee, revealed on May 23 that the Registrar of Political Parties, Anne Nderitu, made an error in the plans to oust Uhuru Kenyatta as party leader.

According to Kioni, Uhuru was notified of his removal from the party leadership via email on May 22 at 7:56 p.m., hours after the conclusion of the National Delegates Convention (NDC).

The SG revealed that he also received the same email regarding his dismissal, which was ratified by the faction led by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) lawmaker Kanini Kega.

Kioni explained that the email from Nderitu arrived late because the party had already approved crucial resolutions.

On the other hand, he noted that the delays in communication of their dismissal assisted them in obtaining a reprieve from the Political Parties Tribunal, which overturned Nderitu’s decision. On May 30, the tribunal will deliberate the issue.

“The benefit of electronic devices is that they provide information, including the time. This email was sent on May 22 at 7:56 p.m., after the NDC had already taken place.\

“We were informed of our dismissal after the delegates decided on the party disputes. “Accordingly, we served the registrar of political parties with the resolution and obtained the Court’s order,” Kioni explained.

Kioni referenced Nderitu’s letter confirming Sabina Chege’s nomination as party leader.

In the same letter, the ORPP confirmed Kioni and vice chairman David Murathe’s expulsion from the party.

The Secretary-General revealed that former President Uhuru went above and beyond to unite the various party factions before calling the NDC.

He also reaffirmed that despite calls for his resignation, the former president would remain active in politics.

“When the two factions refused to meet, even when convened by the party leader, he contacted the NDC and asked them what they wanted with the party members,” Kioni explained.
