Registrar of Parties Gives Green Light: Uhuru, Kioni & Murathe Expelled from Jubilee

On Friday, May 19, the Office Of The Registrar Of Political Parties confirmed that Uhuru Kenyatta’s wing of the Jubilee Party was illegal. As a result, Uhuru Kenyatta lost the battle over the Jubilee Party.

Anne Nderitu, the Registrar of Political Parties. Confirmed to GossipA2Z that she issued her directive to Joshua Kutuny. The Deputy Secretary General of the Kanini Kega faction which is aligned with President William Ruto.

She also reaffirmed Sabina Chege’s position as party leader and Kanini Kega’s position as secretary general.

Similarly, ORPP noted that Vice Chairman David Murathe had been properly expelled and deregistered from the Jubilee Party.

“It should also be noted that the party has concluded disciplinary proceedings against Hon. Jeremiah Kioni, Hon. David Murathe, and Mr. Kagwe Gichohi, in which they participated by Section 14B (2) of the Political Parties Act, 2011 (PPA).

“As a result, the party expelled Representatives Kioni and Murathe and suspended Mr. Kagwe. Part of a letter from ORPP to Kutuny dated May 19 stated, “After reviewing the submitted documents by the PPA and the party constitution, this Office is satisfied that the party adhered to proper procedure.”

Nderitu also confirmed Jeremiah Kioni’s expulsion and deregistration from the party.

Kutuny stated to GossipA2Z that the National Delegates Conference held at the Ngong Race Course on Monday. May 21, was illegal based on a declaration from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties.

“It, therefore, means that the Uhuru-led National Delegates Conference and its resolutions are null and void,” Kutuny stated, clarifying that Kega’s faction was the legitimate party leadership.

Uhuru also stated that he would not be forced to resign or retire. Urging the faction of President William Ruto led by Kanini Kega (EALA MP) to leave the party.

“I wanted to leave politics and focus on other issues, and I had hoped to resign from the NDC, but some individuals have decided to issue threats and resort to violence against us.

“Today, I want to tell them to look elsewhere for someone to intimidate, not Uhuru wa Kenyatta,” the former president emphasized.

Kenya’s former ruling party, Jubilee Party, has been embroiled in leadership disputes since President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term ended.

In April 2023, when Uhuru and Ruto’s allies held competing National Executive Council (NEC) meetings, the squabbles began in earnest.

The majority of the party’s elected officials attended Uhuru’s NEC meeting, while a smaller number of party members attended Ruto’s.

Since then, there has been a power struggle between the two factions. With each side accusing the other of being illegitimate.

Uhuru’s faction accused Ruto of attempting to seize control of the party by force, while Ruto’s faction accused Uhuru of attempting to marginalize it.
