On April 4, police tracked and arrested one of the suspects in Mombasa. The man was in the process of purchasing a vehicle with money suspected to be from the robbery.
The horrific incident, captured on CCTV from one of the neighboring shops in the busy Eastleigh shopping center, revealed two men in a motorbike, shooting and grabbing a bag from the victim identified as Adan Ali Mohamed.
Speaking to the press the following day, the victim’s relative revealed that Adan had sustained a spinal cord injury resulting from the bullet which entered through his neck and exited through the back.
“He was taking two-day sales of cooking oil to the bank. He found the bank closed and called his colleague to inform him,” a relative explained.
“He was told to take a motorbike and within a half-kilometer, he was accosted by thieves whose origins were unknown. He was shot and robbed of the money.”
According to the hospital, Adan required a special procedure to return functionality in both his legs which were affected by the injury.
