Tanzanian Rapper’s Mystery Song About A ‘Certain Country’ Sparks Kenyan Speculation
Kenyans are currently engaged in speculation following the release of a new track by the renowned Tanzanian rapper Emmanuel Elibariki, also known as Nay wa Mitego, which seems to be directed towards an undisclosed country.
The song, “Wapi huko”, hits back at a certain country that is plagued with poor leadership, corruption, hunger, and lack of employment opportunities for its youth.
In the song, Nay describes a scenario where the nation appears attractive and wealthy to the global audience, yet its citizens endure hardships due to neglectful leaders. The younger generation faces struggles with poverty, and the focus of young women has shifted towards financial concerns rather than romantic pursuits.
Additionally, the rapper criticizes young men for pursuing relationships with older women for financial support, showcasing proficiency in English, and boasting about their country’s superiority over neighboring nations, while highlighting the irony that they lack basic amenities like electricity in their homeland.
Additionally, Nay asserts that the unidentified nation currently has a significant number of unmarried mothers, a considerable portion of whom seek financial support and are easily swayed when presented with monetary incentives.
The song has sparked discussions on Twitter, with Kenyan opinions divided on whether the singer is addressing issues within the country or specifically targeting the audience.
One Conrad Kulo said: “Tanzania is cooking us. The Jirani hana unga, hana umeme, ni kingereza tu slur has now been cooked in the studio, and let me tell you, Maina, William Ruto must go.”
Nevertheless, user Mwabili Mwagodi expressed a contrasting view, asserting that Nay is specifically focusing on the leadership in Tanzania.

“It’s crazy how Kenyans have completely not understood that Ney wa Mitego is mocking Tanzania’s leadership for mocking Kenya yet Tanzania is the one in the pits. You guys will never appreciate Bongo Flava for what it is, a literacy masterpiece,” Mwagodi said.
The foremost detractor of the Kenya Kwanza administration, Gabriel Oguda, has asserted that Tanzanians are directing the song towards Kenya.
“Yaani imefika mahali jirani Tanzania have also decided to mock us openly and they know we will do them nothing? Bwana a country that used to shake like a leaf in our presence now going after us without fear? Bwana ama God sent Ruto to punish us and we don’t know?” Oguda said.
Many of the topics Nay discusses in the song reflect experiences that have taken place in Kenya.
Factors such as the elevated cost of living, unemployment, and inadequate access to necessities affect numerous individuals.
President Ruto has faced significant backlash for the continual imposition of taxes on the Kenyan population, resulting in an elevated cost of living.
Ruto has vigorously upheld his administration against criticism, going so far as to engage in a verbal confrontation with the judiciary.
