The Senior Political Affairs Reporter for Citizen Television, Stephen Letoo, is calculating his losses after thieves broke into his vehicle and stole valuables.

The journalist told PoliticalPulseChat that the incident occurred shortly after he parked his car at a gas station along Muthangari Road in Lavington on Friday evening.

After completing his duties at the facility, he returned to his car and noticed broken glass on the passenger seat as he approached it.

Letoo discovered upon further inspection of his vehicle that several valuable objects were missing. These include a laptop, hard drives, personal items, and VIP invitations for his forthcoming Thanksgiving ceremony.

The journalist questioned whether this was an isolated incident, pondering why his car was singled out among the numerous others in the parking lot.

“I am still conducting an evaluation to determine if they stole anything else. There were numerous vehicles in the parking lot. “I believe this was not an isolated incident, as I was the only person to find my vehicle in that condition,” he said.

Letoo affirmed that he reported the incident to the Muthangari Police Station via OB number 04/02/09/2023 on September 4, 2023.

Many journalists have recently fallen victim to burglaries or assaults in the course of their professional duties.

John Allan Namu of African Uncensored expressed concern on March 27, 2023, after his fellow journalists were assaulted and arrested while covering the Azimio coalition’s mass demonstrations.

On the same day, other journalists covering the same demonstrations for various media outlets encountered a rowdy gang in Kibra. Several journalists were injured, while others were looted.

These distressing incidents are alarming indicators of the nation’s rising crime rates. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics’ 2023 Economic Survey, the number of larceny cases increased from 11,762 in 2021 to 14,714 in 2022.
