State: We’re Experiencing Challenges With The Issuance Of Passports
Isaac Mwaura, the Government Spokesperson, clarified that the recent disruptions in passport issuance are due to the malfunctioning of printing machines and a rise in the demand for travel documents.
During his Thursday address to the nation, Mwaura clarified that the current printing equipment at Nyayo House is facing ongoing issues. He also mentioned that the government has already acquired two new machines to rectify the situation.
He disclosed that the devices had already been delivered to the nation and would be unveiled by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki in the upcoming days.
Mwaura urged Kenyans to exercise patience and mentioned that an additional 100,000 travel documents will be distributed in the upcoming days.
“I am happy to report that there are two new machines that have been procured and we have been able to print 100,000 new passports that are going to be issued,” he stated.
Alternatively, he pointed out that there was a substantial backlog being addressed by the Ministry of Interior.

As per the spokesperson, numerous Kenyan citizens are applying for passports, and the government is managing the issuance of both new applications and those that were pending.
He claimed that a comparable situation was unfolding regarding the issuance of Good Conduct Certificates.
“The demand for passports is extremely high and the backlog is also high. We also have the same with the good conduct certificates. We are in the process of streamlining the two.
“For good conduct, we have a demand for 20,000 per day against a backlog of 700,000,” the Spokesperson added.
In recent months, individuals from Kenya seeking passports have encountered delays in the application process.
For example, certain individuals in Kenya have expressed frustration, stating that they have been waiting for their travel documents for more than half a year, even though they have completed all the necessary procedures.
Additional Kenyan individuals have also urged the Cabinet Secretary to implement significant changes at Nyayo House to enhance the delivery of services.
